Brass ring, bague en laiton

The brass ring is completed with its band. I first have cast a cylinder of brass and turned it on the lathe.The band has been soldered to the stud (see its creation on the previous post). The patination of brass is done first with a solution of Iron Sulfate then one of Copper Sulfate. The polishing enhances the contrast of colours.

La bague en laiton reçoit finalement son anneau. J'ai d'abord coulé un cylindre de laiton dans un moule au sable, puis l'ai façonné sur le tour à métaux. L'anneau a été soudé au clou cruciforme créé précédemment. Pour patiner le laiton j'utilise d'abord du sulfate de fer puis du sulfate de cuivre. Le polissage révèle le contraste de couleurs.

Sand-casting brass, laiton fonte au sable

Water is drizzled on the sand with a sprayer. I pass the sand through a sieve to even the moisture. Once the box has been ramed with sand and the mould cavities have been formed, I cast the molten brass.

Le sable est arrosé en bruine avec un pulvérisateur pour le réhumidifier. Je le passe ensuite au travers d’un tamis pour uniformiser l’humidité. Une fois la boîte remplie de sable et les moules formés, je suis prêt à couler le laiton en fusion.
