Silver and wood ring, bague argent et bois

This wood and silver ring is another experiment to combine these beautiful materials. The wood comes from a fell Longan tree from the village where I live. I love the warmth of this wood. I finished the ring with wax and turpentine.

J’essaye ici de combiner le bois et l’argent dans un même bijou. J’aime la chaleur de ce bois de longane. Ce bois a une histoire, il vient d’un arbre du village où j’habite. La finition du bois est faite à l’encaustique.

Riveted wheel ring, anneau riveté

We were in Macau a whole week for vacation. In a car shop there, I saw a vintage steering wheel. That design that combines wood and metal, inspired me to create this ring. The wood is longan wood, the rivet are gently hammered to avoid spliting the wood. I used epoxy glue and finished it with wax. Pretty happy how it turned out.

Quand nous étions à Macao, j’ai vu dans un magasin un volant de voiture ancienne. Ce design qui associe le bois et le métal m’a inspiré pour cette bague. Le bois est du bois de longane, j’ai fait attention en rivetant de ne pas fendre le bois. La colle utilisée est de l’époxy, la finition est faite à la cire.

For this ring I have associated 2 elements from the chinese philosophy: wood and metal. The longan wood I use is very dense and has a nice pinkish colour. I have collected it from a tree that fell during the typhoon season and let it dry for 3 years. The wooden pegs have been turned on the lathe and set using epoxy glue. They have been sealed with wax.

J’ai associé deux matières venant des 5 éléments de la philosophie chinoise, le bois et le métal. Ce bois qui est du bois de longane du village où je vis, vient d’un arbre qui a été abattu par un cyclone. Je l’ai laissé sécher 3 ans à l’ombre. Les petits tourillons de bois ont été tournés sur mon tour et collés à la colle époxy. Je les ai finis à l’encaustique.
